The sugar skull represents a departed soul and has been tradition in Mexico since the 18th century. Back then when Mexico was too poor to make their own fancy art the Mexicans started making art from sugar, something they had an abundance of, this tradition carries on today with the Day of the Dead taking place on October 31st to November 2nd.
